Okay, most of y'all know I'm on the lookout for a cremello stud for my mare.  She's a Top Deck granddaughter on top out of a Leo Tag mare (-- see ped here)

I couldn't get the stud I *wanted* due to several reasons (too far, cost too high w/ shipped semen, owners wanting to show the stud instead of breed, etc.) but I'm desperate for a palomino out of my mare, and as she's 21 this year, I don't have much time left.  I will be praying for a filly, but that will be up to God. :)

At any rate, I found a stud, where the owner may be interested in trading the breeding for a website, so that's right up my alley!  (Plus, I can convince hubby and momma to help alot easier, LOL!)

Sooo.... lets hear ALL your opinions, good AND bad (I especially wanna hear the bad).  Here he is:

So, what's everybody think?  He's in PA (and I'm in Ohio) so that's a decent drive if she doesn't settle the first time.

Has a lot of nicer older type lines.  The bottom line is; do you like him?

I only recognize a few names so I really don't have an opinion on him. I do have a question though, regardless of what stud you find, what happens if the foal is not a palomino?

That is the main reason I'm going for a cremello, and why this search has been so hard.  Cremello x Sorrel is 100% guarantee palomino.  I've done my homework.  If the foal ISN'T palomino, then the stud wasn't a true cremello.  Cremellos carry the dilute gene that you see that makes the palominos their golden color, but they cary 2 of them.  Thus, crossed on a redhead, you get one creme gene and one red gene, and therefore a blonde.  ;)

To answer the other question - I like him, but not as much as my first choice.  However, I don't think my first choice will play through, as reasons stated above, so I'm looking at other options.

I knew that you would stand a good chance getting a yeller feller by crossing a cream on a sorrel but was not sure if that would be a guaranteed thing. Just to keep the thought process going, what would you want this colt to do? Riding horse, barrel horse or an all around horse?

I would probably make an all-around horse, mostly trails and barrels, and maybe a future broodmare.  If it's NOT a filly, I would probably sell it as a weanling.  I'm not into having another gelding.  I want a palomino mare for some very personal reasons, not because "they're pretty" (I get alot of crap on other boards about "breeding for color" because of my search for a cremello stud), and if it's not a mare, I wouldn't prolly want to keep it, so it would need to have some resell value (altho I'm NOT looking to get rich, just recoup some and poss have a new stud fee).  I think I will PROBABLY go with him, unless I can work out some kind of deal with my first choice cremello.
