Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / Re: SSSHHHHHH DONT SAY ANYTHING
Ok heres the update...I was tickled pink at the way cash acted this time. He was extremely quiet compared to last time and he actually walked in the alleyway, and waited on my cue to run. We had an awesome 1st barrel, and right at the last minute going into the 2nd barrel he steps in, and i get him moved over and we go onto the 3rd barrel. He steps in again this time, but i was not quick enough to get him moved over and we hit the 3rd barrel. You Know? I really did not care about that, I was just so thrilled he was 110 times quieter this time. The only time he acted scared was once when the tractor that was dragging, came close to the fence. The big Blonde dope...he lives on a cattle Farm and acted like he had never seen a tractor before. But overall I was really pleased, Now this week we are heading to the practice pen to work on that stepping in mess. LOL

I plan on going to the AQHA show this weekend and running Cash. BUT!!!!! dont let him know it or he will come up 3-legged lame or something between now and then. I have had him vet checked, chiro, wormed and Friday he gets new nikes, AND he will be wearing the treeless saddle, so he will have no excuses...LOL...Now watch me fall off going in the gate...just my luck.. Anyway i will give you an update Sunday night when i come back to work.

Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / I GIVE UP!!!!!!!!!
I am about ready to pull my hair out.... I went out to feed Thursday morning and Pistol comes limping in the barn and moving really sore. I get to looking and he has a small cut on his left shoulder about an inch long. No big deal, its not very big, but where its at it could use a couple of stitches, to keep from further damage. So I am thinking I will go ahead and let him finish eating and get him out and clean it good and daub some furicin on it. I put his halter on him and start walking to the tack room. Well he is walking funny, i mean to the point of staggering, NOW i get worried, then i notice he wont move his neck on his head to the left, but has full fexion to the right. I have about forgot about the cut now cause the staggering has me worried...I immediately call my vet.  i tell him his symptoms, and about the cut. He says it may be west nile, but that he would get there as soon as he could after he finished the call he was on that time. IN about an hour he pulls into my yard. I walk across the yard leading Pistol and he watches him stagger across the yard, he is so bad he is going almost sideways but staggery like. My vet starts his exam, and then says I think he has just got kicked...the cut on his shoulder and he says he also had took a lick at the base of his throat (NO marks of any kind) and it had caused swelling on the inside. So he gives him a local and puts 3 stitches in the cut, then he gives him a shot of cortisone, bute, and muscle relaxer, and i start off to put him in his stable...HE IS WALKING STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. My vet says I think he just wanted attention. the big FAKER....make me look like a dork....I told my vet that at least he got to see him staggering so he could see why i was concerned.  He said yeah he was, but now that we have pampered him he is fine... I think he only did this so I could not try out my new saddle on him...I had bought a treeless saddle the day before for him. So i go and get Cash out and ride him with the treeless, Cause i planned on riding him in the rodeo on Friday night. Friday hubby takes off in my truck and dont get back till 30 minutes before time to leave. I get everything hooked up. go get Cash and he has cut his right front ankle....I said *&^%*&^%*&%% I AINT GOING!!!!!!!!!!!!! So how did everyone elses week go?Huh?? Oh yeah i did get on my mare( the first time in 3 years that she has had a saddle on) She did great!!! considering. So next week while i am off i plan on getting her out and working with her some more...it has come down to where i need a backup for my backups backup.....LOL

Is SHe dropping her shoulder and hitting the Barrel? It is kinda confusing to picture what is going on with her from your description. You say she is blowing the barrel, then she would be coming off really wide. I am not sure what is going on so it is hard to give you any tips on how to correct. Sorry

Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / DiasterWeekend!
I went to an NBHA show yesterday with 500 added. My Run was awful.... I am giving up till i get Cash's new saddle. This is the pits. I cannot ride him enough to correct his little mistakes, and because of this i make more mistakes. Yesterday he had a really nice 1st barrel, we go to the 2nd,he steps in at the barrel( he is not shouldering) he is stepping in, so i pick him up move him over and he gets around the 2nd, but i guess i held him to long cause he rounded it to far and then we were out of line for the 3rd. We get to the 3rd and once again he steps in,i pick him up and move him over, and then he comes off wide cause then he is on the wrong lead....ARGGGGGGGG we ran in the 3D, by the scenic route. 1/10th to fast to place 1st in the 4D. It was a HUGE pattern, the fastest time ran was a 16.8 and we ran a 18.777. Now that i have decided not to run him till I get his saddle, i guess i will get my plug outta the pasture and ride him, he is a grade gelding, and he runs slow times, but at least he is healthy. I talked to the vet Tuesday and he Said Pistol was anemic, so i am not running him for awhile. I am about to get my brood mare out and see what she will do. She has not been ridden in 3 years and is 4 mths pregnant.  This could get interesting!!!!!!

10  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Nutrition and Horse Care / Re: YELLOWJACKET ATTACK!!!!!!
WOW!!! Poor Guy! I know exactly how he feels as I am allergic to bee sting and have to keep a epi-pen with me at all times. I discovered a few years back that you can put Itchamol (Drawing Salve)on a bee sting and it will take the soreness out and will keep the swelling down. However i have only done this with ONE sting at a time, not a ZILLION. You might try giving him an oatmeal bath, it will help soothe the sting and might make him more comfortable.
ANy more suggestions, VAL?

11  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / HOW can people do this????
Ok i know i am venting....so i will try and keep it short.. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can sell a horse as a childs horse and that not be the case.
A friend of mine has a 10 yr old daughter. Her horse she now has is about 19 yrs as the little girl gets more expericened as a rider of course she is now wanting a faster horse for barrels.  Well Her parents went last weekend and bought this Grade 6 year old dead gentle kid broke horse...When they arrived the people  were riding the horse...so their daughter got on the horse and rode it around for awhile and sure enough he was gentle and quite. The man  told them he would hold the check till they had him vet checked. So they bring it home and they take it tuesday night to the arena for the little girl to practice on and for some reason my friend decided to ride him first....well ummm after she gets up off the ground....she would not let her daughter on the horse. The vet gets out on friday to check him(could not come before then)..Come to find out the horse is a 3 yr old and they called the seller to ask for their money back. WELL, he said the horse was theirs and he did not want it back!!! Luckily the check has not cleared and they can stop payment on the check...Which to me is not the issue.... I could not live with myself to misrepresent a horse being sold for a kids horse. We all know even the gentlest horse can hurt a child..they are animals..and accidents do happen. But KNOWINGLY doing so is just plain LOW in my book.

12  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Off the Wall / Re: Well I Did It Again...
Awwwwww I want a dog....dont need one.....but i want one. I had a toy poodle once named Toby,  that minded better than any kid...I lived at that time on a very busy highway and I never once had to worry about him getting in the Highway.  I could actually hold conversations with this dog. LOL I could read his eyes and know exactly what he was saying. Then these dumb ass renters moved in next door and the first day they were there, There dogs killed Toby. They had 3 pit bulls, and they were them fine neighbors you have nightmares about...doping drinking, raising pit bulls for fighting dogs.  Well i had fixed Toby his Supper that night and went out to call him, and this pit bull was standing over him...I thought my world had ended....then the thing started coming towards me, teeth bared, growling, and just when i thought i was gonna be dessert. My Sister-in-laws dog was a Boxer(him and Toby played together all the time), and he came out of no where and hit that Dog broad sided and rolled him and the fight was on. It Allowed me to go in and call the Sherriff, and get for me to get a gun. I went out and shot the Dog that killed Toby and if the other 2 had not been gun shy i would have got them to.  Course my aim was off and i did not kill the one i shot.  The Sherriff came out and told the people that if they did not get rid of those dogs that day, he Would!!! That was the worse time of my life... I cryed for 6 solid weeks. This happened in 1999, and to this day I still think of Toby. Even though I have had dogs since, I have never allowed myself to get that close to one again. As for Pit Bulls....I wish that Breed would go extinct!!!!!

13  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / WHERE is......
Where is everyone?Huh?? UH oh this cooler weather has everyone out riding and i am stuck here at work..... Sad
Well i will bring everyone up to date as to what has been happening around the ole home stead...lol
Friday i put Skip out with the Geldings since i sold Sassy..She is getting along well with them and Peanut and Pistol could really care less she is in there....BUT Cash is acting a complete slobbering idiot....nothing mean just does not give her an inch of space, just typical up her butt, in her business , kinda way. I told him yesterday i sure want to be there when she gets fed up with  his "holier than though" attitude,I hope she way lays him...Here lately he has been getting a really bad attitude...Sooo yesterday i had the Vet check him while he was there. The only place he is sore is in his whithers and i knew that already and hopefully when his new saddle gets here (around Dec 1st)that will take care of that. When i get him out to brush him ( even using a soft bristle brush) before i saddle him up. He turns into the BIGGEST Grouch...pinning his ears, fidgety, cow kicks( none of this bad just slightly does these things)...but once you get the saddle on he turns back into a purring kitty cat so to speak... Well since i found out he is not hurting as bad as he was trying to tell me he was. I realized it was AAT (Attitude Adjustment Time). Sooooo yesterday i started brushing him and the ears went back....we went immediately and work on longe line..tied him back to hitching post and same thing happened...so more work...It took  3 times of doing this before he stood quietly and let me brush him.  Sooo guess what he gets to do now before we get to ride...yep same thing till i can go and get him and brush him and put a saddle on him with out all that crap going on. When i get back from riding, I can brush him all day long and not one misbehavior. Oh well now that i got his number I will be dialing it often. LOL

15  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Nutrition and Horse Care / Re: "Girl" problems?
Ramsey unless she is having problems, like discharge, or something like that, I would not have the vet make a special trip, However the next time you have him/her out for something you might mention this to your vet, it may be that a simple caslick procedure is nescessary to prevent this and to further prevent infections later on.
