1906  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / new program for young horses
Has anyone see the new rookie horse incentive program for horses 5 & under?  check out the website at www.rookiehorseincentive.com anyway, it is for young horses, but is held at the bigger major 4D shows.  sounds like it could be a good alternative to the futurities for those that want to train and ride their own, don't want to pay the high entry fees and want to generally just enjoy their horses.  I am excited about it, now if I could only talk those people into showcasing the stallions in this.  [smile]

Pardon me but; there is apple cider vinegar and then there is apple cider vinegar.  They are not all alike the stuff that you should be feeding comes directly from the orchards or your health food store and costs like about 9 or 10 a gallon.  It is the real stuff that is cider gone sour.  Vinegar is very very hard on your stomach.  I feed ACV and found out the hard way that if you are feeding any thing other than the real stuff you are just throwing your money away, not to mention making it harder on your horses stomach.  JMO, please don't get upset just my 2 cents worth on that subject.

1908  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Nutrition and Horse Care / Re: Whole oats fatting?
I only feed the gro n win alone to my pasture horses, they don't need anything else and it hasn't hurt any of my foals or broodmares especially since they have free access to all the grass they can eat.

Speaking of muzzles, I am going to have to order one so that I can haul my stud this year.  Not because he is mean or anything but because he eats all his lead ropes in two and is always freeing himself, not going to be a good thing at a show.  Not to mention he has learned to pop all my clearance lights and running lights off my trailer without breaking them!  The little devil.

Your horse may benefit from one of those new grazing muzzles.  I would cut the grain back if they have free pasture access.  In the summer months all my pastured horses, including my broodmare are fed only a ration balancer, gro n win by buckeye.  That way I know they are getting the nutrients that they need without all the other.

I just purchased dewormers for the year, so does this rotation sound ok?
April-Strongid
June-Panacur power pac
Aug-Quest
Oct-Equicide
Dec-Anthelcide
Feb-Eqimax
Went by a dewormer schedule in the Horse Health USA catalog.

Yours is fine, I don't like Quest and I only deworm my horses 4 times a year.  I have fecal counts run annually by local dog vet and they are fine.

A few of mine are:

1) Stud: Dash For Perks son; Easy Jet 2X; Master Hand

2) Mares: Doc's Prescription; Doc Bruce, Tonto Bars Hank, Cutter Bill; Vanzi Bar; Le Bear; Orphan Drift; Lonsum Polecat; Sugar Bars; Two Eyed Jack

Can you tell I like the cow/run cross?

3) Current Barrel Horse: Country Rebel/Johnny Red. á

Country Rebel/Johnny Red?  And a Vanzi Bar mare?  I love those old lines.  My stud is bred like that and he came from South Dakota and I would bet that a few of your horses came from that neck of the woods also.  Wow, just love those old running/work crosses also.  [wink]

Well HorseHappy should win a website, she types and talks to much.  Just kidding.  I have known her for a long long time and I guess that gives my age away.

By the way, the also like the Leo bloodlines and used to have a Top Bidder filly but she got hurt really bad and we had to put her down.  I would have liked to have had her now to cross on my PC Sun Socks horse.

Here goes and I have a lot of them

PC Sun Socks by SunFrost
Jamies Country Girl-Rebel Cause/Laughing Boy cross

Broodmare  Peppys Beauty Queen
Sugar Pep Rio-Peppy San/King Fritz
Scarlett Beauty-double bred Flit/Kings Pistol cross

barrel prospect  GVS Champagne Nik
Nik Dell  Easy Six/Hancock cross
Zippo Chapagne Lady  Zippo Pine Bar/Easily Smashed cross

broodmare  Zippo Champagne Lady
Zippos Doug Two  Zippo Pine Bar/Two Eyed Jack cross
Champagne Truffles  Easily Smashed/Old Pueblo TB cross

Broodmare  Renes Champagne Lady
Rene Dan Jet   enough said
out of above mare

Broodmare  Lucky Kitty Lena
Lucky Little Lena/Smart Little Lena
NRHA money earner/AQHA point earner

gelding that I ride
Funnin Around
My Dear Charlie TB
Mito Wise Dancer mare

I really prefer the work/run cross because it keeps the work ethic and soundness in the horses and the run adds a little shot of just that.

I do however feel that the old foundation run type of horse is a much sounder and harder working horse than the modern day runner, but that of course is JMHO

1917  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / Re: Preg mare killed for meat?
When I lived in Florida there were a lot of Dog Farms (greyhounds), they would haul the dead horses off the thoroughbred farms for the meat.  Do you think that someone could have done that for them?  I think this is pure evil and if they ever catch them they should be put in jail.  I bet it was easier to catch the horse than the cows and that is why they picked her.  I do not think anyone in this day and age could be that hungry that they would have to butcher a horse.  Makes me wonder if there is someone living in the wild trying to hide from people!!!![bones]

1918  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: How Come?
Okay, just to update everyone on this subject.  I have been asking around and there is some interest but due to some problems of another nature with these types of programs most are unwilling to commit anything.  They don't want to be a futurity type of thing.  At any rate I haven't given this up but am having to rethink how this would have to be presented and done.  To much going on with the big futurities right now and I think they are starting to leave a very sour taste in a lot of peoples mouths for things of this nature.  I do know that the SunRise Breeders Futurity, 5 State Breeders Futurity, Hawkeye Futurity and Valley Girls have all been successful with this but that is the problem they are futurites and I am having a very hard time finding people that want to go that route.  I would prefer to showcase the stallions on another venue.  I will go back to the think tank and try again and I would appreciate any input you might have.  [confused]

1919  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: How Come?
Thats the kind of input I was looking for!  I really don't want to showcase any more futurity horses either.  I try and promote older horses and wanted to do something that the "average joe" could get in on also.  Stallions could still be showcased because we all hope that our studs will produce the BIG ONES, but people with older horses could nominate their horses sires also since a lot of the older ones are in the ground now.  I think this would be a win win situation.  With this type of format then I think there might be some real surprises as to what some horses bloodlines are.  I wish I could get some other input so I could tell what other people are looking at.[tongue]

1920  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: How Come?
Well Thanks Horsehappy and Admin, I am still wanting to go forward with this but it will be slow, have to come up wiht the $$ for the added and advertising, arena, timers, announcers, worker bees, insurance and all that type of stuff will have to be considered.  Of course I am so happy about all this stupid weather right now on top of it.  All ducks have to be in a row before you can make a go of it.  Need to know if people think, futurity like other people do or if the big idea of making it an open 4D or 5D with special pay for nominated stud offspring for the first couple of years.  Lots of stuff and most people don't really say what they would prefer.  I want something that is not just for the futurity horses but aged ones as well and the only way to have a large crowd is to make it divisional so that a person can pick up the entries from the general barrel horse population and not just trainers.  Well what do you all think?  OPTIONS PLEASE[eek]
