Hello I just found this sight, very happy I did. We are trying to race QH's in Canada, we race in Manitoba and Saskatchewan, it is getting impossible to get a jockey, does anyone have any ideas to help us with this problem if we don't find an answer soon I am afraid it will be the end of QH racing for us.

Welcome to the boards.  You should be able to go to the tracks and find all the jockeys you want.  There are agents that hang around the tracks.  Are you wanting excercise riders or jockeys?  In either case you should be able to find both at your local track or find a large breeding farm that races and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Yes we do have a lot of jockeys at our local track BUT they will not ride the QH's way to fast they keep telling us, we have to cancel alot of our races due to no riders. Our purses are pretty decent I think $4500 canadian , but still they are just to scared to ride our speed  demons, if you can get an excercise rider you are very lucky too!

You must not be having sanctioned quarter horse races.  Around here most of the jockeys will ride either and both at the meets.  You might check with the AQHA about this, or the local Jockey association, there should be someone there that can help you out at the track.  Never heard of such a thing in my life, I have heard of jockeys not wanting to ride them because they don't need the mount fee but 4500 purse is about average and here it cost 65 mount fee plus 10% exercise is 20 per head

We run into the same problem at the track in Mt. Pleasant MI.  Trainers inthe past have gone to tracks out West and got jockeys that were at the bottom of the food chain to come to our track.  Helped them and us out.
