I listed Chillie for sale on the internet today. Sad  Sad time!  Will be more sad to see him go!  My first foal.  I was there for every thing (except the birth), the breeding, the ultra sound, the first to touch him, the first to halter him, the first to do everything with him.  Brings tears to my eyes.  But I can't keep them all, if I'm going to try to make a go of this breeding thing I have to sell him.  So bear with me guys this could get emotional for me. Sad

Don't worry, we will. I will be in the same boat the first time I sell one of the babies. I don't have any stalls left over so that will be my motivation. I cried when I had to sell my old barrel horse. Like you said though, can't keep them all. I just want to be the one to name them so that way I can kinda keep track of how they are doing.

I would like to name Chillie to.  Do you know if I can sell him with the breeders cert already filled out with his name?

I am not sure (you would have to check with APHA) but I think the only way you can sell them already named is to get them reg. It is real cheap if you do it now. Don't waite, the price starts to go up (I think) after six months of age.

Since he is a breeding stock I have till Dec. 2005 before it starts to go up.  But I have to get him DNA tested and my mare, each costing me 60 bucks! Shocked  So when I do that I will probably reg him at the same time!  I'm not looking on selling him anytime soon since he is a breeding stock, they are not in high demand! Roll Eyes  But I never know!

Don't discount him on account of him being a breeding stock. If bred well enough or he does well in training, he will sell.  People who want a can do type of horse may not care if he is colord. Just because he has no color does not mean he has no value. The color does not make the horse. Mind/attitude and conformation are more importand then color.

I have bought babies with breeders certificates before that had the names already listed on the.  Don't know about paints tho because the ones I have had were already older when I bought them. 

The first baby is the hardest to sell.  Just have to learn to try not to become attached (yeah right)   Cry

You will get him sold, just stick with it because weanlings are hard to sell unless they have the popular breeding or they are cheap enough.  After that your best chance is late late yearling or young 2yr old.

Thanks guys!  It is hard cause he is the only foal I have right now.  I figure if I sell him now thats great but if I have to keep him for another year or so that will be fine too.  I would like to sell him now, cause hubby said if I sell him I can get a filly!  So gotta take the good with the bad smile  I know color does not matter, but some people think it does.  I figure I will let my ad ride with no picture then about the end of August I will put a picture of him with the ad.  I always get more hits with a picture!

Those people are the ones who will buy a horse with poor conformation but pretty coloring and then complain when the horse comes up lame. Roll Eyes

So far no hits.  I have never sold a weanling before, so I'm not sure.  From my past experience most people want horses that are already broke.

i wont overlook a nice looking weanling, but i tend to like to start my own,i enjoy the baby days,and laugh when they get to that yearling stage, but you are correct most people do want a broke horse, i think it is , to them , less of a risk, than buying a weanling .

  I like starting my own babies too!  I love starting them and know EXACTLY what has been done with them!  I think some people might be alittle lazy (lack of a better word).  Some people also don't like the orneryness of the young horses!  I like to buy younger horses cause I'm on a budget and they tend to be alittle cheaper! Grin
