Ok Val this is mostly a question for you since you're so versed in QH racing, but if anybody else has suggestions please pipe in!

I would like to know the general steps to getting a horse started at the track.  Not necessarily what kind of horse it takes, but say once you have a horse you think is good enough, who to contact (trainer), what to expect, what to enter, etc. Thanks!

LOL No, but I did think about it with Kippy, and if not her, then it's something I'd like to pursue in the near future.

I hate to burst your bubble, but Kippy is not a race horse.  There are a couple of trainers in Ohio and some in the surrounding states.  Let me know when you get ready.  Referrel is about the only way to find one.  BTW, not to knock quarter, paint or app racing but it cost as much to race one of them as it does a TB and you can make more money running one of them.   My brother in law loves his quarter racers and has been pretty lucky but the racing is pretty limited around here.

when I was younger I would bounce, now I just splat

Valerie is right, it takes a special combination to make any kind of money  in our area in the QH races.  I hear that your Canadian purses have gotten pretty decent in the past year.  I find that unless you have a top runner, you are better off running in overnight races rather than the stake races if you want to make a profit.  Good luck.

Thanks Kelly!  Its somethin I always wanted to do, but if it doesn't pay for itself then it doesn't really make sense I guess. smile
