Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: BITS
I have always used two different bits, one for training and one for the main pen.  So I would suggest that you might use a different bit for trail riding and another your running events.

Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: where is barrel horse poor?
Mine loves his time on the mower too, just loves to complain about it until the time comes to mow.  He's been luckly lately (2 weeks off), without rain the grass seems not to grow as much.   Undecided
I try to volunteer to mow every once in awhile, but he always tells me "let me mow around things first."  I can drive a car, truck & trailer, heavy equipment but I can mow around a couple of trees in our yard, by the time he's ready for he I am always doing something.  Serves him right!!!! blob10

Nic~ Yeah, she is finally getting use to being the only one in the barn.  Looking at another filly from a lady down the road.  We'll see. Dad is coming back down this weekend to build the other 2 stalls and get the hay loft up.

10  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / General Horse Chat / Re: HEAT
Since we are not fully set up for our's to be out all the time, we have set up
about 3-4 fans in the barn and stalls.  We have 2 buckets of water and an automatic waterer set up too.  Also, once I get home from work each night I have been spraying her off just to give her a bit of extra.

I have really been worrying about this lately, cause we are suppose to continue with the hot weather through the end of the week at least!! Undecided

12  Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Nutrition and Horse Care / Re: Fly control agents
I have always used a homemade recipe for fly spray, seems to work well.
Skin-So-Soft (orginal) from avon and water, mix 1-1 ratio.
We have also just started using fly predators this year, they are a small fly(pestless & biteless to humans and animals).  They live on the lava of the common pest fly which breed in the manure piles or manure areas of stalls or corrals.  I have noticed an extreme change in the fly population around our house and barn.  My aunt is the one that referred me, she been using them for about 3 years.  www.flypredator.com
