1 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: Its been a very good weekend but also a very bad weekend..
I talked to a freind of hers sunday,They said she was doing ok.At first she had told her husband that she wanted to sell out and quit running, then she said she had lost her parents and a sibling...If she could get through that she can get through this.

Georgeann was not hurt, shaken but not injured.
Thanks for the kind words for me.Joanna did well she just keeps falling in no mans land. She has said she is going to ride more this winter and work harder to get going better next year.If she would push her horse a little more she would be winning the 2D.

3 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Its been a very good weekend but also a very bad weekend..
I'll start with the good,I should have gotten qualified for NBHA World today.I won the third div.well it would be fourth div in a 4D RACE today and I ended up getting points last night, If I added them up right I tied for second place in the fourth div. All of this on my ol faithful mare, now she gets retired again. But healthy and sound this time,so maybe she will enjoy it this time.
Now for the bad,In the 2d poles last night a lady just finished a smoken run and her horse tripped and fell. When the horse fell it crashed under the gate into the allyway. It landed on its left side and it head and neck under the gate on the riders left leg.I ran over to help get her and the horse up.When we got the gate off the horse it did'nt get up right away.when it did its neck was arched to the right and its head cocked to the left.It stood there and shook at first we thought it was just shook up but quickly found it was hurt badly. It had a large swollen spot on the left side of its neck that just kept getting bigger. Then it started breathing kinda funny,He was going into shock.Gums turned white and all the signs of shock. They had already called a vet and chiro.,when they got there they checked him out and think that it had torn an arterie(sp) and had fractured some vert. in its neck.It just seemed to keep getting worse no matter how hard they tried to save it.But in the end the horse had to be put down.
The owner was Georgeann Mason from francisco she runs in 00 I think,So please keep George and Tom Mason in your thoughts and prayers. They called the horse Spook,I dont know that much about the horse but he could flat run a set of poles.Spook had one the pole class with the run just before the fall so his last run put him on top.
Also I would like to say a special thanks to DR's Debra Schaefer, and Pam Buss for trying to do what they could,Cobb Edwards for being there to help,Along with many others.Dave Edwards and Tim Oxbey for getting Spook home and buryed through the night.
Please keep these good folks in your thoughts and prayers in there time of great loss.

Val,Joanna nor I have enough points so far to go back next year.I am planning on riding my mare at the two shows later this month and hope to get a few points to get qualified for next year.If neither of us make it next year we might go to Tulsa or tunica for super shows, maybe memphis. But we are going to Gordyville for sure but is the only one that we are sure of at this time.
Turnin,Val was correct 850 in the open. There is so much to do and see when you are there.Diretors race sunday night,Sweepstakes on monday,Trick or Trot on tuesday,Wensday Sinergy Stables has a hog roast,Lightening round on thursday,Finals on saturday.Let alone it is such a nice area to see,The city has so many old buildings andstuff to see downtown,The river is just site to see.The Georgia Carolina State Fair is going on at the same time,Just too much to see and not enough time to do it all.

8 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Well we survived another year at Augusta!!!!!
We made it back all safe and sound, and having the horses come back sound was at the top of the list.We had a blast, there is just too much to see and do while you are there.
Joanna had a good run in the sweepstakes but hit the third barrel on her first go (Pilot error......forgot to set him and he shouldered it),Second go she just barely tipped the second barrel coming out of it.
I had a decent run in the sweepstakes,Had a 16.714 in the first go and 16.766 in the second go.So I was around 6/10ths out of the fourth Div. I did not push my mare that hard in the second go,She kinda stumbled coming in and again at the first barrel,With having just pulled her out of the pasture three weeks ago and not real sure of how she was doing since the stress fracture back in march. So we could have done better in the second go,But i was afraid if I really got after her she would'nt quit if she was hurt,so she ran her own race and did good.
When we left home I was so scared of two things,1st that I would go down there and hurt my mare again. And second would be that I would come home and be ashamed of how we ran,Now I know that my mare cant run with the best horses in the country,She was raised here and was not bred as a barrel horse.....she is bred as a reining horse. But she has the heart the size of texas and does her best at what we do.And she really seems to love to turn barrels. So I am happy that we were in the neighborhood of the horses that got in the money. So thats as good as a win to me.
It was so neat to pull into the hippodrome and see that sign at the gate that says "Welcome Champions YOU HAVE MADE IT!!".We watched the directors race on sunday. The trick or trot on tuesday and the lightening round on thursday.....15 horses all ran within 3 or 4 tenths of each other for a payday of $24,000 for first place and $16,000 for second.
Now I am ready for a vacation from my vacation and to sit back relax and try and find a way to get enough points to go back next year.
If any of you have not been there and you get the chance and are able to go it is well worth the hardships it takes to get there.

9 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: barrel horse poor and Turning Buring Buddy
It wont quit raining long enough to have a show it seems,There is supposed to be a show at lynnville sat. but it is gonna have to do some major drying for them to have a show.I stopped there on my way home last thursday and water was standing in the arena,I live due east of the saddle club and we had about 7" of rain fri. and sat. so I dont see anyway possible that they will have a show this weekend even if we dont get rain on thursday like they are calling for.As soon as I know for sure we will be going somewhere I'll let you know and I will see if I can get my grill fired up.

Hey HH Good to see ya back.Joanna is doing good and we are both trying to get ready for augusta but the weather is'nt helping much.I need to ride more than her but just cant get in our arena half the time anymore.About the time it gets dry it rains again. If the weather does'nt let up soon I am going to try to get my mare back out for augusta,I'll have to see if her leg will be ready yet.I have not been on her since early spring so maybe she will be ready by now.I'd like to take her antway because ahes the one that got joanna qualified last year and me for this year. She deserves the chance to go since she got both of us there.Besides it her kind of pen anyway.she loves to run indoors on smaller arenas.I can only hope and wait and see if not I'll take rafter and hope we have at least one good day.But If I dont get to ride him soon that will be a disaster waiting to happen. He does not take to not being ridden very well and trying to do a pattern. But we are making gains in the right direction so in a year or so we might be doing pretty good.

Sorry its been so long,I have been so busy but my puter went on the blink.........Modem died.Just got it back tonight.Glad to see that I am missed.
All is fairly well,I have been having back trouble so I have not been riding at all.Weather has'nt been to good for riding anyway,I did go trail riding and camping over labor day weekend, that was fun we have not done that in four or five years..........The last time we went was the weekend after we got our new trailer. That was in 2002 I think.

Here I am,I have been busy as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.
My wife has been doing real well with elvis,I am doing slow work with rafter trying to get together.
Everybody I know has been needing some kind of help in the evenings the last week or so,Thats why I have not been here much lately. Now I have to go out and mow the yard so see ya'll later.

13 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: And you wonder why gamers have such a bad reputation?
I dont care if it was a pony saddle......A trophy saddle is a trophy saddle. If any of these folks dont like the awards the can collect more sponsers so more or better things can be bought.I think we have a great state show and I dont see anything wrong with the awards they are giving out.People keep damaging stuff and we may not have such a nice place to have a state show at.

They must of had horses that were buddy's side by side.
can the person who had the stalls be charged for th damage.

15 Welcome to Runninghorses.net Forums! / Barrels & Contesting / Re: back from the Indiana State show
Well i for one think that you guys did a great job. I was there had great runs and a great time.
Yes they did do a great job again this year.I assume.......And you know what that does......That its Rhonda.
You did have good runs.
I have to say we had a good time and joanna got a check on friday so all is great.
I was however supprised when I heard that Bob Hess would be our director next year.I think he will do a good job,He has been around this sport for so long that he should know what direction it is headed and should be a good leader.
