thank you all, i am awaiting a visit from the vet again this morning.. Jet has not passed the mineral oil.. and it was given at 8 last night.. the banamine wore off around 2, he got pretty restless, no rolling, but still uncomfy...
this morning at 9 he crashed again.. he has a severe twist.... vet had hoped that it woudl "work it way out"....
but it hasnt,i am in a state of shck, disbelief and mostly i am depressed.
i told HH last night { thank you so much by the way, you are an angel!}  that Just has been  really ouchy and off the last few days, in fact since  his last exercise, he has been favoring his right knee again.. it wasnt a long workout at all...
i had been riding Jet, so that i could get him running, now i am not sure of what i am going to do.He is my back up horse, and with my finished acting the way he is, i am pretty uncertain,
i know i have to get my head on right.vet shoud be here soon,i called him at 9....it is 11 now.....bryan is at work, thankfully mom is off work today to sit with anabelle. i have the guy who did the arena for me,  he does backhoe work as well...i hope i dont need it, but since Jet has crashed again...and no sign of mineral oil at all... i am praying for a 9th inning miracle, and i am being shut out by the home team right now.
thank  you everyone, i cant tell  ya'll how much ya'll mean to me....i will keep ya'll updated. :dontknow:

Oh Aimee.  I am so emotinal with everything else going on I am sitting here at work crying reading your post.  I really hope he comes out of it. :angel11:  I hate the feeling of not being able to do anything.  Do you know what caused him to colic?  I am going to PM you with my phone #, you call me day or night if you need anything.  I am not a wise owl like Shan, HH, or Val, but I can listen and I'm pretty good at talking. :angel2:

Come on Jet pull threw we need you, Aimee needs you!

well vet just left, 1:00 here.. he felt no twist, no blockage, but Jet's heart rate is still elevated amd his breathing is still racing..
he whinnies at everyone in the barn... he is a herd bound butt anyway... no manure passed still.. but now am waiting until 5 or 6 when this round of banamine and xyloxine wears off... i dont want him to suffer,,, vet still says he may crash for good, all depends on how long and badly he was twisted..if any permanent damage was done. got some fluids in him, just wait and see now.
i am trying to keep busy and not fall apart until the last dice has been thrown, but i am exhausted and is it hard to stay logical.Especially when he is in pain, i am going to try and get some sleep.. maybe that will clear my head :dontknow:

Jettin, I am hoping that he is not ready and will pull through with as little trouble as possible. I know how things can be scary the second time around. You know what is right and when it is right. We all know how doing the right thing is sometimes the hardest decision to make. I hope the right thing here turns out to be you having to put up with him being a pain in the butt for awhile. You have got my prayers and thoughts going your way. I wish there was something else I could do. The only thing I can do is send you good wishes on the wings of some dragonfly's. I have your fly's and will send them to you as soon as I get a box that will fit them. I am hoping they do not end up being condolence gifts. You have my number and if you want to or need to, call me. I am a great listener. Your great to talk to anyway. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help. Your part of the group now girl. No way are we going to let you go through this alone (so to speak).
Thinking of you and Jet.  :angel5:

today has been a big day of changes.. upheavals really.
my dearest Jet decided about 10 minutes ago to fight like a son of a bitch{which i heard his dam was!!}, he has passed a slimy gooey pile of mineral oil /manure.......the first since 7 am this morning... he is butting his head in my chest as if to say damn biiatttchh where is my feed?? he is more like my Jet than the zombie that invaded his body yesterday morning... at 9 pm tonight he will have hit the 24  hour mark.... after that if he crashes again, the vet will put him down...if he stays up, i have my Jet back...his breathing is easier and he is brighter in the eyes... he is throwing a tantrum since he is the only one not eating....
i feel like hell about that....i have hope for the first time in 2 days, if he can fight through this, i know we together will be unstoppable,, funny you mentioned the dragonflys HH.... while out with Jet this evening, even though we are having 30 - 45 mph wind gusts from some freaking hybrid tropical system today, a dragonfly landed on my hand...such a small insignifigant thing in the whole grand scheme of things, but for someone who has lived her life in a way that looks for signs......this was one i needed,, see... dragonflies signify magic, transformation, change and speed, hard to catch, harder to kill...i would love to think that the brand on Jet's butt .. now growing white hairs!...... and the brand on all my barrel horses butts gave them the same strengths of the dragonfly... i wear a necklace that has a dragonfly made of horseshoe nails... i will get pic of it, it is gorgeous...i got it at the fortune 5 show here in Tampa...as a show of my intent....
so now  that my head is on straight, i am looking for  a new vet after 18 years, i feel that  it is a time for a change there....nothing that was from Jet's ordeal, but just how my vet handled the whole ordeal....the this is how is is going to be.. my way or no way... owner opinion or wishes dont matter,
i am grateful to everyone of ya;ll for your prayers, hugs and best wishes, i am so blessed to have such wonderful sisters in my life in each and every one of you.....i am going to try to eat something.. my appetite is back since yesterday.... and relax  somewhat.. watch the weather... laugh at Jet's mooching for feed....
I have my Jet back. and that is all that matters.

Jet, I am so glad to hear he is not quite ready yet. I pray that he continues to improve. I thought about you and Jet all day and maybe the fact you have some dragonfly's of your own now will bring you some good luck.

I am so glad he is doing better, my friend Kristin that lives near Lake Okeechobee lost her On The Money Red mare about 2 months ago to a twist.  I don't think they caught hers early enough to really be able to help her.

Let us know how it goes.  Like you needed this on top of everything else right  :dontknow:

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin

Jet is doing much better than i am right now.... i just got off the phone with
1. my vet
2. my EX feed store {local mill!}

honestly i am in a state of shock and now rage!

this morning when i went to feed the gang... i scooped out of the barrel i had started 4 days ago ,Jet colicked 3 days ago, or atleast that is when it started, i found a huge PROCESSED, covered in molasses DEAD RAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i lost my breakfast.. poor guys who are doing a great job on the barn extension.. and i screamed bloody murder. So i came in the house, in tears... nextelled Bryan , told him what i
had found.. and placed a call to the vet who treated Jet.. we have been chatting back and forth about why Jet's heart rate and breathing both were racing... we even had 2 vials of blood drawn just in case.....my vet calls back and tells me that yes,  he was poisoned.. and that caused the violent colic.. to cause the twist and blockage.he told me to get photos of the dead rat in the feed...{i left it there..right where i found it.... and closed up the bucket tight again.Thank goodness} and to call the feed mill.. since i bought it directly from the mill...i called and teh mill said it was truly a freak accident and thank you for calling...that was it...i understand that it was a fluke, but even an apology would be nice, i wouldnt even expect to get help with the 800 dollar plus vet bill...just an apology for what Jet went through. i will apologize right now for the pics, they are awful..

OMG AIMEE!  That is nasty!  I HATE RATS!  So all the "good" grain was on top and you didn't see the rat untill the feed got down further in the barrel?  Oh I would have FREAKED too.  Poor Jet. :bash:

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin
Post by: Ramsey on October 06, 2005, 01:56:14 AM
OMG I'm so with you!!!!  If you can get the vet who treated Jet to issue a statement (in writing) saying that in his professional opinion he thinks that the dead rat was directly related with your horse colicking, you CAN sue them in small claims!  Call Judge Judy or Judge Larry Joe or someone!  I'm serious!  An $800 vet bill is a big chunk of change to have to swallow!

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin
Post by: turninburninbuddy on October 06, 2005, 06:20:51 AM
Rats are discusting I agree call Judge Judge and take them to court.

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin
Post by: valerie on October 06, 2005, 07:41:03 AM
I have been through that before too, in 1970 we lost 4 horses to colic from feed that had been accidently mixed with hog feed (back then it had arsenic in it), never collected.  I have seen bagged feed from major feed companies that have body parts in it.  Can't really sue because they will tell you that it happens and a certain amount of animal parts are acceptable (even in human feed).  A rat, however is awful large and I would never buy feed that mill mixed again, I would try to see if they would give you the vet bill or a portion of it but again it is a very very involved process to sue and I don't think you would like it.  You would have had samanella from a dead rat and that would have been bad too!  I no longer have feed mixed because of the little critters but I have never gotten over the fact that there are parts in all the feed made including what I buy in the grocery store for me.   :angry4:

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin
Post by: Horsehappy on October 06, 2005, 09:44:12 AM
Oh my. :eeka: I think it might get you just as far to tell them they can help you with the vet bill or you will show that picture to alllll your horsey friends who buy feed. A law suite might not worry them too much, but bad publicity...that might just get thier attention allot faster.  :nailgun:
Val is right that every food manufacture (human and animal) has a legal limit on the amount of foreign   material allowed in their food/product. A dead rat (as gross as it is) might be with in the legal limit. You would also have to prove that the rat was the source of the poising and that the horse could have not gotten poisend from any other venue. Since all your other horses got the same feed and only Jet got sick, that might be hard to do. Tell a lawyer and they might not care. Tell a friend, (and they tell a friend, and so on and so on) you might get them to help out some on the vet bill. Bad publicity will cost them much more then a law suite.

Some things in life I just don't want to know and knowing that a certin amount of my food contains body parts, is something I DO NOT want to know!

I agree with HH, tell all your friends.  Bad Publicity will hurt them.  Especailly when you go to Vegas! :blob10:

Title: Re: Prayers for Jettin
Post by: JustJettin on October 06, 2005, 08:56:02 PM
well, every other horse in the barn went off their feed, Jet kept eating... he never ever doesnt eat his meals... lol...
so i think and am relieved that it was just one and not all 6 that got sick.. they had some horses last year get sick and die off this feed during the hurricanes last year.. but the mill had a vet come in and do all these tests proving it wasnt their feed.. state inspectors are welcome in their mill.... etc etc....vet recommended i call the state ag dept... i am just so relieved that Jet is doing great... i am still very upset and am happy with the new feed,,, much closer to home, not a 70 mile round trip....just a 10 minute round trip and that includes talking to everyone in the feed store....

I think I heard this one, tell them it is going to gross them out and the same is true for ketchup and all that stuff.  Makes you want to go to the Amish and learn to make stuff the old timey way and not buy anything anymore.  No wonder the market is so big for "natural" food stores.  Tell them, go ahead, I want to read the responses.

The way I hear it peanut butter is okay for humans so long as there is less then like 3% -5% rat poop in it. :icon_puke_l:
I got one from first hand experience.  When I was about 15 I worked in a berry processing plant.  I stood on a line with a bunch of other 14-18 year old girls watching berries go by on a conveyor belt.  Our job was to pick leaves, dirt, whatever debris off the belt so that the berries are clean when they go to make jam.  Any thing too gross and discusting to touch we would let go right on by.  Dead bird one time.  Lots of poop and misc. stuff we did not know what it was.  I actually still feel bad sometimes for letting some of that crap go by.  I still wont buy smuckers cause thats who bought our berries. :icon_puke_r: :icon_puke_l: :icon_puke_r:

About the best way I can think of eating anything that is processed is to not think about how it is made. If you really got down to checking out how things are made, you might find yourself not eating at all. Think about some of the wonderful things we eat on a regular basis and what it is or what really goes into it. Mushrooms-they are a fungus. Just like the stuff that grows on your feet (athletes foot). Jello- do ya really want to know what is in that stuff? Guess where all the old and tough chickens of the world go. It ain't to the animal food producers. Cambels soups. Besides, think about this. At one point or another, we have had worse things in our mouths then twigs and/or leaves. Ever eatin an apple fresh from the tree? Did you know it only takes a cup and a half of apple seeds to kill a human? What about potato skins? You really think they ever get all the dirt off of them? Think about the grain they feed to cows. If they were not grinding up dead animal nevous systems, then mad cow would not even be a thought. Eat what you want and enjoy it. Just don't ever start to work at a place that makes the foods you like. Kinda falls under the idea of what you don't know wont hurt you :dontknow:.

Have you ever tried feeding him oats and buying some blackstrap molasses from Wal Mart and mixing a little in it.  The sweet feed molds quick in the humidity.  Mine learn to eat what I feed them or they go hungry.

Man, what a week your having when it comes to feeding. :angry7: Maybe you should start to grow your own feed. A little corn, oats, add a little molassis and call it a day. At least then you would know what is in everything your feeding and how fresh it is. Did the bags look like they had been wet or anything? I think I would be opening up everything I bought for awhile.

Your mare has a pretty face (since that is all I can see of her) too bad Junior is not closer to you. :love3: What babies they could make. :clap2: You do clean up well BTW. I bet the cobwebs would be great for this month. Scare the hell out of nosey neighbor. :laughing6: Maybe you could put the dead rat on her door step? Did I say that out loud?  :angel12:

welllll.  putting the dead rat on her doorstep is very very tempting... especially with the dirty looks she is shooting the guys who are busting their behinds on the barn extension{i am sssssssssssoooooooooo giddy about  the progress an dthe way it will turn out!!}
i ended up getting pellets today.. and had the hubby stop by wallie world to get some molasses....Just is a real jerk whenit come to his food..... but i am to the point where he can go hungry until he eats the dang food... everyone else is thrilled with whatever they get... him.he hates oats, beet pulp and pellets....likes corn, molasses and bran.
i will have to get better pics of the mare...let me dig through some pics and see what i can find
thank you all for the cleaning up compliments.. LOL!!!!
hope all are having a great day!
i am off to make some caramel apple cookies:)

My day is stressfull!  Hoping to close on my house tonight.  Getting ready to leave work in about 10 min~  Been very busy at work. :nailgun:  Cookies sound good!  you are such a homemaker! :)  Good luck with your feeding problem!

Nic, you got the house, now breath. In through the nose, out through mouth. In throught the nose, out throught the mouth.  Try to relaxe for a bit. :)
Jet, Just will eat when he starts to get hungry enough. He may eat slow, but he will eat. Your barn sounds like it is going to be ssooo cool. Can't waite to see the pictures. Hey, BTW, I finally found a box big enough. I should get everything together and out to you by Monday. I have to be careful not to mail you a ferret. They keep getting onto the box I have for your dragonflys. Trust me when I tell you that your sun dial has been ferret tested and approved as a play toy. I can not put that thing anywhere where the ferrets can't get in to it. I found one sleeping in the box , laying on the sun dial this mourning.
Got our open house  (at work) this weekemd. Been staying real busy. The open house this weekend, it is so cool, I might get the chance to learn how to drive a team of horses. Never have gotten to do that yet. We are having horse drawn hay rides this weekend. I will have to tell you guys how it goes. I am going over to Henderson  KY., to help some friends put on a open barn party. It is geared to all the neighborhood kids and anybody else who wants to come. That sould be fun as well.
Well, off to bed. I'll type later.

HH... my voice of reason and calm... love ya!!
i am so glad that the ferrets have been having a blast on the sundial... i am going to put it on the pasture side of the barn, so that you can see it when you pull in.. have painted my tack room door.... will have to post pics when all is done.
had to reschedule farrier.. concrete is scheduled to be poured the same day he was to come out.
still fighting the freaking feed store.... :bash:... amlearning how to make the rope halters and other tack items as well... including the ones that are made of the colorful thin parachute cord... will help if  reins would match custom bridle i think.
been up to my neck in marketing books, advertising and promotional books...........i am really trying to make it a very well run business..... am baking pumpkin bread right now, and have cinnamon sticks, whole cloves and dried apple in a  crock pot for air freshner..high today here was 88......... feels great, LOL!!!

will post pics of progress in barn today... hubby got wiring done in aisleway!!! now he just has to wire the stall for heat lamps, regular lights and a ceiling fan... and then the new feed room, hay room, and extensiono f the tack room!!

hope everyone's weekend is great!! hugs ya'll!!!!

In Florida? :icon_scratch:  Why? Does Florida get cold enough to use them allot?:dontknow: Do your horses get a real winter coat? Mine are starting to put their coats on. Dasher is getting pretty fuzzy. I am thinking about getting Junior a winter blanket. Not too sure where he is going to be staying. Will figure something out. Is Jet completley back now? I would love to see you get somewhere with the feed store but my feelings are the best thing you  are probubley going to walk away with is the fact that Jet is still here. It may have cost quite a bit to keep him but it would of cost even more to find another good, back up horse to replace him.

we get in the 40s sometimes, sometimes even a frost...lol!
the gang gets full winter coat...Jet looks like a huge black fuzzball.....
Jet is about 80 -65%  back... he seems to be okay, but i havent ridden him yet.
Just is now my main concern... seems like his run in with the rat incident has messed with him in a totally different way..he hasnt been right since ...
i had him out  that night in the pasture.. and i thought he may have slipped  and pulled or bruised something when he was playing and showing off...the next morning he was moving off funny on his hind end.. so when i went to feed that afternoon he was laying down, nothing big, no rolling , just laying down... thought okay, he is napping... next morning, laying  down, so i give him a few days recoup time...but he is still laying down, he will get up to eat, acts like it hurts to stand... moves out really stiff and sore on all 4 feet...trainer friend of mine took a look at him and said either navicular or laminitis......
now hubby says if i have to buy a new horse to run with.. that someone has to go...wondering why in the world is he getting this way about it?
he knew who and what i was when he met and married me, why try to screw with the problem now?  wonder where the supportive person i first met has gone.. work seems to be his biggest priority.. with me hollering and raising cane to get housework done on days off...
i dont even want to think about having to put Just down if his problem is something serious, i have had him for 10 years now... and trying to find a good horse to replace Jet ... scary.... even more scary finding a consistent sane 1d horse that like the loud music and crowds.. seems to "feed" off of them.. so i think my biggest fear right now is having to replace Just...
something tells me that Sonny could handle the pressure after the first of the year... but i wouldnt want to totally fry the big guy... and  that also is pending  how Twister and Jet come on...
hardest thing is that i cant talk to hubby about these equine related issues .. his response is "Sell." and then i get pissy with him, i dont want a solution to the problem, i just want him to listen! he used to, not anymore.... but hell;enough of my whining!
feed store issue . i am at the same conclusion ,, just lucky to have Jet here...even though he is fuzzy and hairy and bossy..LOL!!!

HH- I am having to tell my self to just breath, allot latley.  The past couple nights I have had a hard time sleeping again.  Alot of dreaming.  Matt is still seeing this chick (I like to call her alot of other things), and it is killing me.  I know I am better off with out him, etc. but it is eating me up.  Oh well nothing to do but to move on, and know that I am the better person and in the long run I am better off with out him.  I just try to keep thinking of all the things he did (or didn't do) that I didn't like and that I now don't have to deal with.

Turnin-  I am so sorry to hear about Just, know that we are always here to talk too.  It does not make it easy when the one person you want to talk to about things says "sell".  Looking back over the last 2 weeks before Matt and I split I had stopped talking to him.  We would bairley talk about day to day stuff.  But he was just so busy with working on his trucks and work he didn't really talk to me eaither.  Don't ever stop talking to Bryan, even if you don't like what he is going to say.  Just try and camly explain to him your side.  If I could do things diffrently (may or may not have changed things) I would have tried harder to talk to Matt, instead of just brushing things under the rug.  I told him several times he didn't even know me any more, he didn't know what was going on with me, how I felt, and part of that was my fault for not telling him, and part was his for not asking. The hardest thing for me has been looking at the man I love (loved) and knowing he is not the same man I married.  He has changed, the man I married is not a cheater, and is not a liar (I know of times when he has lied to his new chick), and I know deap down he doen't like him self for the situation he has put us in.  But all this was his choice and he is going to have to live with it, no turning back time, he lost the best thing(s) in his life.  Sorry I went off on a tangent.  Keep you head up and I hope the horses come out ok, it is no fun when the horses aren't well.  You have had a busy couple months, just remember everything happens for a reason. :)

Nic, wow, I am impressed.
I think we have another wise owl out on the branch. :clap2: I am relived to see how well you are handeling everything.  Your a tough chick. You can do anything you want right now. I know how hard it can be to have your life changed by the actions of another. The adjustment period sucks but once you are though it, you will be surprised at what doors can open for you. Just take on one thing at a time. So far, you have gotten the house and the horses. You still have your job. That is a pretty good start. Just be careful about making any quick, long term, decisions.

Jett,
Let me see if I have this right.
1. You bought (and had shipped) two colts.
2. You have started doing tack designs and started a business.
3. You have completley changed the landscape of your property.
4. You have added on to the barn and built a arena.
5. You just joind the WPRA.
6. You also seem to be challenging Betty Crocker for bragging rights in your spare time.

Is this a typical year in your house hold? :dontknow:
With that much drive and energy, you will definitely get to Vegas!!! :blob10: :blob10:
I am lucky to get the floor mopped.
