Title: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 12, 2005, 10:13:41 PM Well, today I have to finish up loading the trailer and getting everything ready for the weekend (Laundry, go get some feed and clean all the litter boxes ::)). Maybe while I am up at Vals I can give everyone a progress report on how we are doing. If not then I will try to fill everyone in when I get back Monday. I hope to have a great weekend and to stay as dry as possable. I am a little nevous and am sure I will for get something but I am really geared up. If nothing else I will get to see Junior and visit with Val so that will be a good thing reardless of how we do. I think Dasher is about ready and all I have to do is stay on and not get in her way. Maybe Val will get to ride something too. ;)
Type at everyone later. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 12, 2005, 10:19:02 PM Have fun and GOOD LUCK!! Give Shots filly a kiss for me! I sure wish I could go! Oh well, I will be at my mom and dads this weekend and they have internet! Which means I will be able to stop in and check up on things! :bounce: Gotta do the family thing this weekend! ::)

Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 17, 2005, 11:42:14 AM Ok everybody, we are home. (I have been home for awhile just too busy to jump on and post.) :D
I am going to just give highlites since I am real worn out!!! ??? Had a pretty good weekend. Not as good as I would like to have had but not bad either (until the way home. Will explaine more later) Made a good run (second one) and a not so good run (first one) but was very please with our progress. The second run was better then the first. Dasher gave me three real good turns and I bettered my time by almost a full second. Not to mention I looked real good doing it (I have pictures to prove it too ;D) Learned a little bit more about how to ride Dasher and may have corrected one of our problems. To be continued... (but now I have GOT to sleep!!! Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 17, 2005, 05:11:32 PM This is going to be another one of her "stories", I can tell. She left at like 5:30 so she should have been home way earlier than she did.
She did much better at state than she acts like too. The difference between her first exhibition time and her last run in the second go was like about 3 seconds. I think she showed improvement every time she ran. Her last run actually was a very nice smooth run like you want to see in a horse that isn't seasoned. If they continue to make runs like that then she will be able to progress to asking for a little more speed with it as they go. She done good and wasn't that far out of it anyway. The mare is going to really make her a good one as long as she can remember not to be in a big hurry and ask her for to much run to soon. I borrowed a horse for one of my senior runs (let Horse Happy tell you about that one), I would have borrowed her mare if she was a seasoned horse and I thought riders with different styles would not hurt her more than help her. At any rate I scratched my second go and am very very tired today. More like wore out. Horse Happy is worn out mostly from having to travel with me. I have to be there a lot and on Friday we only were able to get 2 hours sleep! She went and took a wee little nap on Saturday but I don't think it helped to much. We did do better and got to sleep for 4 hours on Saturday night. YaHoooo :bounce: My feet hurt and are not going to recover, my hubby did not clean any stalls but at least he did not complain and yell at me like she does every year before. I don't know how long it will take for me to recover. I still have to go through a bunch of stuff for the garage sale items that were sold. I have 2 horse shows to process the points for and all the stuff here to catch up on. Somebody cleaned their stall and left manure all over the barn aisle. ::) I have like a mountain of dirty laundry, did not get to ride any of my horses, have like lakes of mud to wade through from the 3-5 inches of rain we must have gotten over the weekend, sent my colt home with Keith, my friend sent one home with Tim Oxby. Okay so now I am going outside to do the morning feeding before coming back in and cleaning up to go to work. I hope I remember how to do all that stuff again. :dontknow: Will Post more later, can't wait to hear about Horse Happys trip home. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 17, 2005, 06:59:16 PM Holly cow! Sounds like you guys had a good time! Late nights reminds me that I'm not as young as I used to be! ;) You know HH it has been alittle quite on your end as far as stories go! ;D Can't wait to here your adventure this time! :bounce:
Glad to hear you and Dasher are progressing! I think alot of us tend to be harder on our self than what other people see (if that makes sence!). Gosh Val, it's great comming home from a long weekend! ::) I totally feel for you! We are on the go so much comming home is nice but I normaly spent the next week catching up! ::) The stalls are the worst! I try to keep up on mine, but then when I get home it's like a mountin of poop!!!!!! We were gone all weekend ourselfs, I think someone came in to my house and distoryed it! ;D I need to teach my cats how to clean! Title: Re: Off to state we go! I got home about 9:00 pm so it is not like Dasher and I walked home from anywhere. ;D Just have to take the trailer back into the shop, again >:(. I was very glad to get home (and so was Dasher!!!)She did much better at state than she acts like too. The difference between her first exhibition time and her last run in the second go was like about 3 seconds. I think she showed improvement every time she ran. Her last run actually was a very nice smooth run like you want to see in a horse that isn't seasoned. The mare is going to really make her a good one as long as she can remember not to be in a big hurry and ask her for to much run to soon. Awwh, Thanks Val. :-[ and considering the announcer was calling her to run by saying and here is that "mean ol Valerie Snyider" >:D (hehe) words of enouragement and praise mean allot!!! ;D I borrowed a horse for one of my senior runs (let Horse Happy tell you about that one), I would have borrowed her mare if she was a seasoned horse and I thought riders with different styles would not hurt her more than help her. At any rate I scratched my second go and am very very tired today. More like wore out. Horse Happy is worn out mostly from having to travel with me. Once she gets set on doing something, just try to keep up with her! :o Bring your running shoes and plenty of energy food!!! ;D my hubby did not clean any stalls..... Somebody cleaned their stall and left manure all over the barn aisle. Really? Who? :P Juniors stall got cleaned and it took the entire dump cart to do it. I think Gary almost felt a small bit of guilt as he stood by the fans while I toiled away cleaning the stall. (not to mention finishing the haying and watering the horses for him, while Gary was hiding in the house out of the rain) :P my friend sent one home with Tim Oxby. That should be interesting :o I am going to get a few more things done then I will come back and post more. That way if anyone is interested, they will be able to keep up with our progress. ;) Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 17, 2005, 07:44:13 PM Oh man! I have to wait to hear more stories! :book1:
Quote while Gary was hiding in the house out of the rain) You know he is made of sugar, he might have melted! :rotf:Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 18, 2005, 05:16:32 AM Well let me tell you about my reaction to the barn when I went out to feed this morning :cussing: I mean he did not even clean his horses stall and only one of them is his. :bs: He must have figured I would be mad because when I got home tonight he was cleaning his stall but he has left it for me to bed and stuff.
I am glad that Horse Happy cleaned her stall out. Only makes about 4 or 5 to catch up on. They will all need stripped so it is going to take a little bit to get done. :mooner1: Anyway; Horse Happy did much better than she thought she would. She is way to hard on herself. Never get in a hurry with one and keep your horses as light in the mouth as you can and you will be ahead of the game in the long run. I don't think I am ever going to wake up again. My feet are going to hurt for the rest of my life. By the way the new stirrups of horse happy's made her feet happy. ;D I am way to old to be doing this. :dontknow: Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 18, 2005, 06:45:27 AM I am way to old to be doing this. :dontknow: Liar, liar pants on fire!!! :mooner1: :rotf: I know better!!! ;D You got everything done yesterday and still got up and went to work today. I was barley able to remember my name this morning. ::) You guys should have seen Val this weekend. Working the entry booth, the garage sale, the arena, the gate, having to field questions and any gripes, getting the vendors into thier places, taking in someones horse who had no where else to go, feeding her own horses, taking care of me and Gary, and riding in one of the short go's in senior on a horse that may have been automatic on the run but sure needed manual overdrive to get her in the arena. All this on only a couple of hours of sleep. I was able to sneek off to my truck and take a few naps, she was on the go all the time. It got to the point that if I wanted to know where Val was I would sit in one place knowing she would be breezing by sooner or later. ;D No wonder her feet hurt. She might as well of run the Boston Marathon!!! Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 18, 2005, 06:49:49 PM Quote You guys should have seen Val this weekend. He must have figured I would be mad because when I got home tonight he was cleaning his stall but he has left it for me to bed and stuff. I would have kicked him! Men they can't do anything with out us ladies! I left for 2 weeks last Nov. and I told hubby that he atleast had to clean them 4 times while I was gone. I only think he did it twice. But we only have 4 stalls! Striping all of yours would SUCK! I think I would not do his laundry for a while! See how he likes it! :PI am glad that Horse Happy cleaned her stall out. Only makes about 4 or 5 to catch up on. They will all need stripped so it is going to take a little bit to get done. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 18, 2005, 06:54:37 PM Don't do his laundry good idea. ;) He would just go buy more. He doesn't do dishes either, had to do them every morning before we left the house.
Next year I am riding come heck or high water on a horse of mine that I know what is going to happen with. I don't heal well and am way to old and broken up to be riding a horse that I have to have help getting on and off of :o I mean the pattern was the easy part. I must be nuts and I know that horse thinks I am. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 18, 2005, 07:32:45 PM When hubby is a bad boy I always put my elbow in him when I'm sleeping. Or I toss and turn alot. I know both things anoy him, and it's fun! Val my hubby does not do dished eaither. :-\ I hate the dishes! :P
Maybe Nick will be going good by next year, and you will kick butt! :bounce: Now Val I have seen you twice now and neither time did you look old to me! I don't know what you are talking about. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 18, 2005, 07:42:38 PM Well my body says I am old (think i have hit the dirt one to many times in my younger days). At any rate sometimes I think I should have kept one or 2 or my favorite horses from the past and forgot all this colt stuff and raising babies stuff and just enjoyed riding.
I had a mare that I have regretted selling ever since I sold her but if she was here I really never would have ridden any colts again (might have been a good thing) and as much as I dislike geldings I did have a Duck Dance gelding that I have regretted selling. He was hard to qualify on but he drew a check everytime I did get him qualified. It broke my heart to see him after I sold him and he went over the hill shortly after. Gary is right I get way to attached to these old hides. Thanks for telling me I don't look old but then you have never seen me without the Miss Clariol >:D Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 18, 2005, 07:53:16 PM I tried hard not to hit the dirt when I was younger, I try even harder now that I'm older! ;D I get too attached to the horses too. It took me two years to desided to sell a horse. He wasn't even that good, it took me getting kicked int he chest by him to deside to sell him! Thats a horse I regret even buying! :o My mare is the only horse I own that I will never sell. Hubby says he won't sell his mare, but I bet if the right amount of money came along he would sell her.
Quote Thanks for telling me I don't look old I really don't think you do!Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 18, 2005, 08:09:13 PM Val, old is what I looked like Sat morning.
Don't you remember "Good morning sunshine". :D Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 18, 2005, 09:13:53 PM Horse Happy, that would have been the day that I debated whether to wake you up or not until Gary told me that he would not be over until either late in the afternoon or not at all. I really did not think you wanted to miss your run. And besides you should have been more rested, I mean we did get a whole 2 hours sleep you know.
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 18, 2005, 09:23:36 PM Ok I wanna know the truth- ;) were you guys up till all hours parting and talking or were you really working :cat:
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 19, 2005, 12:12:55 AM Horse Happy was running her horse at like 1:30 in the morning and I set barrels until 2:15. Partying would have been much better.

Post by: valerie on July 19, 2005, 12:21:49 AM It gets a little bigger every year. It also gets harder to work and keep up with.
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 19, 2005, 12:28:06 AM I bet it's fun tho! Do you have alot of help, or do most people want to run and not help?
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 19, 2005, 03:23:02 AM I bet it's fun tho! Do you have alot of help, or do most people want to run and not help? It was fun for me. Not sure how much fun it was for Val since she had to work almost all of it. As far as people helping it is a mix. I voluntered for the senior class on Sat. There were a few people that they had to call several times and some that did not show up at all. In Val's district, you get charged if you don't work. In my district, they normally don't have too many problems getting people to work. You only have to work for so long so it is not that big a deal. I think my dist had the only people (besides maybe Val) that had to work for more then a hour. The only thing I had to deal with was the fact that I had to climb a fence every time someone hit a barrel. I asked my dist director how I got the side with no gate and he said I was younger then everybody else working so he figured I could handel it. ::) Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 19, 2005, 03:27:45 AM What, you climbed the fence? :o you must have had the 1st barrel. Tell Chuck to get you a lawn chair like everyone else had.
My district has to work 50 horses or pay 15.00 if they want district awards, no work no award for you. Some want them some don't . It only take an hour to run 50 horses so it should not have been that hard for anyone. It is getting harder and harder to get people to work, I had to work the gate twice and had to set up barrels for a couple of hours on top of everything else I had to do. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 19, 2005, 03:35:39 AM What, you climbed the fence? :o you must have had the 1st barrel. Tell Chuck to get you a lawn chair like everyone else had. Tell Chuck??? Like that would really do it. :rotf: It was really my choice not to stay in the arena. After seeing a few of the horses go up the fence I did not eel comfortable about standing (or sitting) in the arena. Besides, about the only ones in the arena were the folks on the third barrel. They have enough room not to have to worry about a horse coming their way. Of course taking the wire of the gate on the first barrel would have been a big help. :D Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 19, 2005, 04:06:40 AM yes, tell Chuck! ::) He won't bite and just sounds like a grouch. They all think I am the biggest grouch anyway.

I always enjoy your company. I can still live without the spiders and stuff. Why are you taking your trailer back into the shop? ??? Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 20, 2005, 11:12:38 AM I always enjoy your company. I can still live without the spiders and stuff. Why are you taking your trailer back into the shop? ??? Really? That is good to know. Sometimes I wonder if I am not being a pest. I can do with out the spiders myself. (yuck) The trailer lost everything on the way home from the show. No lights,no brakes, nothing. I did not even have emergancy flashers. I was scared to death that I would get caught out after dark and have some body plow into the back of me and Dasher was right by the door. I almost ran out of gas too. I had to stop off in Lynnville and I turn on the pump and that breaks down and does not work. I did however, sell the saddle pad and girth while I was trying to get some fuel. The people I sold them too were real happy to buy them at that price. :D I get home and come into the house and I try to turn on the kitchen light and that does not work either. I am thinking to myself, "what is it with me and electronical stuff tonight?" The trailer goes back to the shop on Monday. I am going to forever have problems with that trailer because of it being wrecked!!! >:( I was lucky the thing did not catch fire. It shorted out on the inside of the trailer right by the back door. Found the burnt spot while trying to figure out what happened to it the next day. Title: Re: Off to state we go! I guess I am having a hard time understanding why I did'nt get it. Ya know what I mean? Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 20, 2005, 08:25:28 PM ;) Well they originally told you they would let you know on Friday if you got the job. This ain't Friday and the meeting your friend overheard may have been for something else. By the way if they know you were not hired then I would guess they know the reason your were not. Maybe they looked at how often you got hurt and had to miss work. Sometimes things happen for a reason, might be a better pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in store for you. :angel1:

You have to get un-altered ferrits from a breeder and there are not too many around here. You also have to keep the females bred or they will die. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: 1Wildcowgirl on July 21, 2005, 06:29:08 PM What is a un-altered ferrit? So once a ferrit is Prego she has to stay that way FOREVER? :o Poor girl!
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 21, 2005, 06:35:26 PM Well you all are not going to believe this but, here in Shelby County they have been seeing a lot of wild ferrets? Some one must have turned a bunch of them loose at one point and they are making a come back in the wilds of the county :rotf:
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Ramsey on July 21, 2005, 06:52:27 PM What is a un-altered ferrit It must be some sort of ferret gelding! lolTitle: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 21, 2005, 10:02:51 PM Well you all are not going to believe this but, here in Shelby County they have been seeing a lot of wild ferrets? Some one must have turned a bunch of them loose at one point and they are making a come back in the wilds of the county :rotf: Really? Wow. According to all the reasearch I found on them, the only true wild ferret in the U.S. is the black footed ferret out in the west. They live around praire dog colonies since that is their main source of food. Most ferrets that get turned loose don't survive since the can not tolerate extremly cold weather and they get over heated pretty fast. They also have pretty bad eyesight and tend to become easy prey for things like hawks and coyotes The do however, have a great sence of smell and thier skin is thicker then cows hide. Boy I hope these farrel ferrets don't get around chicken breeders or people who breed rabbits. :o And yes, once a female becomes old enough to breed then you must keep breeding them. I can not remember what the issue is but it has some thing to do with their heat cycles. Something to do with the estrogin production messes them up and will eventually kill them. They only come into heat (I think) twice a year. I did alot of research when I got Tazzy (my first one) so that I would know what I was dealing with. Around here a ferret is going to cost you about 120 bucks. Out of the four I had (three now :'() I only boght one. Nobody wanted him( he was the last one left and he was in the bad ferret cage since he kept getting out) so they marked him down to almost half price and that was before the price went up on them. I only paid something like 40 dollars for him. Everybody else kept giving me the ones they did not want. They make great pets but you have to know how to care for them and you have to understand thier habits. They are not good pets for kids since the young ones have to learn how to play with us thin skined creatures. Alot of people mistake their "weasel war dance" for aggresion and think they are trying to attack when all they are doing is asking you to play. :D Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 22, 2005, 04:39:58 AM They think someone turned a bunch of them loose and they are breeding and populating. They have spotted them in one general area of the county and they have been spotted by more than one person. A family actually caught one in a live animal trap that was set for racoons. They thought they had a weasel until they took them to the animal shelter to see what they had. I wonder how they have been surviving. They said these are all quite wild and not pets. :-\

They thought they had a weasel until they took them to the animal shelter to see what they had. I wonder how they have been surviving. They said these are all quite wild and not pets. :-\ I suppose if they were un-altered (still able to breed) ferrets then they could turn back wild. They are pretty brave and not afraid of much. (mine think they are badgers :D) The will reek havoc on any rabbit breeders or chicken farmers if they find them. You won't have to worry too much about rodents though. They will also take care of most snakes too. In you case Val, maybe not such a bad thing hu? Some one did that with razorback hogs down here. Turned a bunch loose in the stripper pit areas down here. The folks who live in those areas are going nuts because of them. They are not afraid of much and have been known to kill peoples dogs and tear into farmers crops. They are some mean critters. :o The locals in the area have been told to shoot them on sight. Don't worry about trying to trap them or calling DNR or animal controle, just shoot them and then call someone. Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 23, 2005, 04:59:38 AM They did a study on feral hogs and they are a problem world wide. It doesn't take any time at all for hogs to go back to the wild and survive. They are mean, in the pioneer days they turned them loose and rounded them up when they felt like eating pork. They are rather gamey to eat and they can get huge and like all pigs they love to root. >:(
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: JustJettin on July 23, 2005, 07:27:05 AM we have wild hogs down here and they are MEAN!!!!!!!
scare the beejeezibies out of the horses too, and what a mess they make when they root!!! nasty tasting things too!! :brushteeth: :rotf: Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Horsehappy on July 23, 2005, 09:45:37 AM scare the beejeezibies out of the horses too, Why is that? :-\ I can remember when I was a kid and had my horse at the end of a lane that had a few hogs/pigs by there, when the pigs would get loose we would go try to round them up and the horses hated it. They did not want to go any where near those pigs. We made them, but boy did the horses get upset. Also. (for the city girl in me) what in the world is the differnce between a hog and a pig? Size or weight? ??? Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: JustJettin on July 23, 2005, 11:18:59 AM honestly i think it is the smell of the pig, not that they are dirty, but just the odor of a feral hog...i know that {this was on national geographic..lol} if a domestic pig/hog escapes, within weeks it begins to revert to feral.... tusks grow, hair lengthens and the snout lengthens as well,
pretty odd.. :dontknow: Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 23, 2005, 07:41:00 PM The special I saw on TV said that those wild hogs are all over the world and are a real problem. I know when I lived in Florida they had a bunch of them and down in Texas by my aunts there are a lot of them. She didn't say if they bothered her horses or not. We ate one down there when we had a bar b que, tasted gamey but then all wild stuff has that taste. When you throw some beer over it and cover it with sauce you can stand it. Heck for that matter you when you have enough beer it doesn't taste bad at all :rotf:
Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: JustJettin on July 23, 2005, 08:32:35 PM where did you live in florida??

I could never move back because of the heat and humidity. I just cannot deal well with that anymore. I am about ready for Montana or something.

i am going to have to mow sometime soon, the grass is knee deep! :o but oh well, ;D hubby wont let me near the mower anytime soon, i made it have a flat and ran over the garden hose all in the same day... :rotf: Title: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: Ramsey on July 24, 2005, 06:17:23 PM hubby wont let me near the mower anytime soon LMAO I am the same way! I always used to get slack for not mowing (like I don't do enough around here anyhow, but that's another issue ::) lol) so one day I took it upon myself to mow. His stupid 1930's mower blew up on me (I forgot to add oil to it he says, like I don't do enough he can't keep the damn thing oiled and greased and ready for me to use??) so when I mowed, I ended up blowing the motor on the damn thing. LOL!!! No more mowing for me! ;DTitle: Re: Off to state we go! Post by: valerie on July 24, 2005, 06:39:59 PM >:D And that kind of thing usually works well for me. >:D
